hey all... so i found out my rear axle housing is bent, is there any aftermarket must-haves, or should i go for the salvage yard replacement unit??? 05 2500 hd, eaton lockers, 3:73's... ideas???? :help my idea is to find a housing and put my internals in it, with new seals and bearings... anyone think there is a better idea??

i would stay with the original rear! but that is my opinion! easiest to do for replacement in my mind!

some dufus ran a red and smoked me in the RR, directly in the center of my wheel. didn't notice any damage until i started wearing tires really bad in the rear, well more than usual:rof SO i took it to have a 30+ year vet in alignment looks at it, and the RR is "toed out" +.068.

the housing is tweaked about 3/4 of an inch. he said he would straighten up to around 1/2, but anything more than that would most likely crack the housing.

straighten it and reweld the tubes and weld braces on it. A chain, 20 ton bottle jack, lazer light, and a little inguinity can go along way. Take it to a body shop that has a frame machine and they can probably do it. It might be cheeper than replacement and sometime its a challange to see if you can beat the odds

A shop that has a Chief-ez-liner frame machine would work good. They usually have 3 pulling towers and an auxillary ram and all sorts of chains, blocks, steel plates, and anything else you or they might need to fix it. I would think as long as you didn't twist the housing you would be ok. I have straightened a couple of three in my life time and they workd fine. I was from St. Louis and used to go to Flat River and Play with my Old Dodge 4x4 and break lots of stuff. There are a lot of Bodyman that are really inguinous. By the way, use a GOOD lazer light, beam doesn't dispurse as much over distance.

Go back to the guy, his insurance company, or your insurance company. Even if it was 2 years ago, I would still go back to them to replace the housing or the rear end. You might have to argue with them at first and make lots of phone call and talk to everyones bosses, but if your due it, they will come thru.

If that damage is part of the accident it should be covered under your insurance.
