My friend is looking at a 94 Chevy K1500 4X4 6.5L turbo diesel... it has 99,000 miles on it and NO rust or body filler at all. He want's 4,300.00 for the truck... is that worth it? And what are the downfalls to owning an older diesel like that? Are there any? Input? Thanx!

I wouldn't personally pay that for it, but that's just me.

Oddly enough ive been browsing diesels on craigslist, and those old 6.5s are going for that price. Infact most of the ones ive seen local to my area are more expensive than that and they have ALOT more mileage. Just what ive seen...

Had one just like that, They run good to be 94. Get @ 20-24 mpg hwy. Inj pumps go out but are alot cheaper now . 10-15 yrs ago were 800-1000 dls. 1994 was split year, could have the good mech pump or the elec one. Elec are $450 on Ebay rebuilt w warr. Id buy it if its a clean trk.

Diesel Place has a lot of members with the older diesels, you may get better info over there :drink

I paid $2,800 for mine with almost twice the miles and a couple holes where the cab corners used to be... for a good running clean truck, that price is about right.

Those are pretty good trucks when looking at fuel economy - most of the half tons were geared with 3.42's

Tell him 3500... I just bought a 94 2500 4X4 with 142k miles on the clock for 800... But I stole it.. it was an old company truck they wanted to dump quick

Well we went down tonight to look at it and he is buying it. It is MINT...i'm talking the body has ZERO rust...not even a pin head sized piece. The interior.....looks 100% new... like it was never rode in...ever. Every light works, every component works, etc.. Under the hood is clean, lots of new parts and work done to it, starts perfect, runs perfect. I've never seen a 94 in this good of shape. It also comes with aftermarket wheels/tires and the tires are brand new. Here is a pic:

Does look good :rockin

He is only going to run it about 5-6K a year tops....use it to tow on occasion, put stuff in the bed, and run it maybe 40 miles every two weeks.. He's keeping it bone stock, and for the price and how good of shape it was....I would even buy it! Plus I didn't know they get 20+ MPG.

You did not say it was a E/C. Thats a hell of a deal. The only problem with the pre 95 trucks is the stock stereo sucks, and the damn arm rests fall off....

That is SHARP. I'd jump all over it, if I could get over my severe disliking of the 94-older dashboard and it's weird "let's put the tape deck way over there" stereo

That sounds like crap!!!!! When you put an aftermarket deck in them it has to go there as well. Better have a remote.

The guy selling it bought it from an old guy who lived 1 mile from where he worked....the old guy garage kept it and rode it to work everyday, that was it. He eventually sold it and this new guy put a new bed on it, replaced bumpers, doors, etc.. and just had it repainted 2 months ago.. He replaced A LOT of the connections, etc.. in the engine and really made it look NICE. Due to some issues, he needed money ASAP and had to sell it fast, so my friend got a really good deal. We have been running around in it all night and it rides smooth, no slipping, nothing. Needless to say he's stoked!
