Hi, my fuel gauge will not work anymore....I drove home from school for the weekend, it worked all the way home then I filled up before I drove back to the city and made it over an hour without the gauge even moving then five mins later I looked down again and I seen it go right from full down to empty with the light on in about 2 secs. It stayed like this right into the city and the morning after it went back upto full and won't move until I shut the truck off. I tried disconnecting the batteries to reset it but it won't work. Any ideas to help are greatly appreciated since money is tight while i'm in school.

Its going to be hard to disgnose without looking at it. Chances are its the sending unit in the tank. It could be the cluster to.

Thanks for the reply towmaster.... Wish stupid little things like this set codes off so you knew what the problem is, cause i don't know what you could do to test it other than dropping the tank pulling out the sending unit reconnecting it and move it around to see if the guage moves

My cousin thought his sending unit was bad but when he removed it the float had fallen off so he reattatched it and was good to go!

I know they do go bad some times and if you don't want to buy a new one I am parting out my wrecked truck and have a good used one for sale.

PM me if you're interested!

I think you can take it to GM and they can check to see what the sending unit is telling the computer. It will rule out if its the cluster or not. It could still be just a loose wire though
