Guys my dad needs some help. He just bought a 2012 Chevy with only 20,000 miles on it and whenever he pulls his fifth wheel camper. After 20 miles down the road the fuel filter life goes from 100% to 0%. The fuel filter is brand new. He owns a mechanic shop and had his head mechanic install a new one and the same issue happened. So we took it up to the Chevrolet Dealership that he purchased the truck from they went through it and couldn't figure it out. He also said it has done it with no load just the truck going down the road but it was after 100 miles or more. So I am just trying to find out if any of you guys have an idea of what the problem is or have had the same problem. I appreciate any help!

Could be a cracked fuel filter housing sucking in air. I had that same issue, but it was because I had gas in my diesel, so that probably isn't his issue.

How would you know if the tune was left in there? Would you have to hook a tuner up to the truck to see? Or would a scan tool through the computer on the truck be able to detect that?

GM can see it through a screen capture of the TCM. You would be able to see if it was tuned with a monitor, like an Edge or Banks. If it had an aggressive tune, which it would have to be to do what it did, you'd be seeing almost 30PSI of boost at WOT, which you won't see on a stock tune. That would indicate a tune. Also, an aggressive tune like that - you'd feel it when you whack the pedal. Truck would haul ass and rip like no tomorrow. But, if you don't know this truck, you might think that type of power is normal. At a roll from 7-10 MPH, a WOT pull would break the tires loose with an aggressive tune.

I would think the most likely culprit would be a leak in the fuel filter head, or the gasket on the fuel filter might not have been seated properly allowing air to leak in under high loads.

The fuel filter is a Napa brand so it should be a good one. But I will have them hook up the scan tool to check for the tune and make sure the filter is seated tightly. Thanks for all the help guys this gives us a great place to start!

Had same issue. Changed filter etc, bled out air etc. Nothing.

Ended up being the driver side Fuel Pressure Regulator was bad. It was stuck open and bleeding out fuel pressure under load. That would cause Rail pressure to drop fast and cause it to say 0% left. Have the dealer perform a "vial test" . Guaranteed regulator is bad. :thumb
