I was told by a friend of mine that if you have a black toolbox you must wax it to keep the paint from chipping within a few years, is this true?? if so what kind of wax should be used??

I used my black toolbox for about three years. Never had a problem with it. I gave it to a guy that's had it for a year now and still no chipping. Some from abuse, but I don't know of a wax in the world that will prevent that. All in all I think the box is about six years old. Still looks good to me.

I have a black aluminum tool box on my trailer and it is starting to peel around the diamond pattern. I do not think waking would help but it might. I think the paint was just thin on the corners and moisture got under it and made it start lifting.

I have a Delta[cheap box],but have had 2 with NO chipping or peeling..Why not seal it with something to ensure this is not a problem that'll have you worring in the future...:drink

Ya I cant see how waxing would help mutch. But, the more I think about it its worth a shot! Id guess it might work like puting tanning lotion on yourself...... Or someone else for theat matter

You might try the product called Liquid Glass. Its supposed to be an extremely hard durable finish glass. Its harder to scratch, yet if you do scratch it it'll be hard to buff out scratch. I have used this product on chrome rims and it seems to make them less prone to scratches that cause rusting. Just my 2 cents.
